Fertility – naturally by preference
You want to have children. We all expect initially to be fertile. But fertility is not a given. What if all pregnancy tests come back negative? Our society still treats infertility as a subject that is frequently taboo. Infertility in women and in men can have the following causes:
- anatomy
- post-infection
- post-surgery
- hormonal causes
What can be done if without contraception no pregnancy occurs in months or even years?
The usual route leads to a fertility clinic. However, this does not necessarily have to be the first step.
As part of a comprehensive consultation, possible causes can be determined and a treatment plan generated. The root cause in many cases is a hormone deficiency (endocrinopathy). The widespread use of the contraceptive pill as well as other contraceptive methods using synthetic hormones (vaginal ring, hormonal implant, hormonal coil, birth control shot (three-months injection) or hormone patch) reduce the body’s own hormone production, thus making it more difficult for a possible pregnancy once contraception has stopped.
In only takes a simple hormone saliva test to determine an accurate hormonal status that shows the relationships between individual hormones, thus clarifying the question as to whether enough hormones for a pregnancy are present after all. Synthetic hormones as in standard modern contraceptives depress the body’s own hormonal balance. A hormone deficiency ensues which can continue for years after the discontinuation of contraception.
Scientific literature has highlighted some hormones whose function can not only contribute towards fulfilling the desire for a child, but also reduce the risk of a disturbed pregnancy, miscarriage, premature birth or toxaemia of pregnancy (gestosis).
Alongside Hashimoto’s disease (chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis) and endometriosis, one of the most common disorders after years of contraception with synthetic hormones is PCO syndrome (polycystic ovary syndrome). This involves many small cysts on the ovaries that are not as in the ideal development in various stages of maturity, but are all of the same size. As the result, no ovulation occurs and thus no pregnancy can ensue.
Based on saliva tests, facial analysis and a description of the symptoms, the restoration of the ideal hormonal balance is the most important focus of Dr Farmini’s care in cases of infertility or family planning after contraception with synthetic hormones.
“The better the hormonal levels, the better pregnancies can progress without complications or adverse symptoms,” Dr Farmini concludes.
The following hormones play a crucial role in pregnancy:
- progesterone
- estriol
- vitamin D
- T3 thyroid hormone
In addition to its many tasks such as enabling and maintaining pregnancy, progesterone, produced by the egg, also has the capability of making the egg more attractive for the sperms – it makes them swim faster.*
“Men and women become the more attractive the higher their progesterone levels.”
